United Arts and Sciences Student Council – House of Senate

The House of Senate is the primary legislative body of the United Arts and Sciences Student Council, vested with the authority to create statutes, resolutions, and policy frameworks governing the College of Arts and Sciences. It is composed of Co-Curricular Organization Vice Presidents serving as Senators, and up to three Sector Senators representing unique, recognized student sectors. The Vice President of the Council concurrently serves as the House of Senate Chancellor, presiding over all legislative proceedings.

The Senate exercises core functions such as the passage of the General Appropriations Act, the formulation of the General Plan of Action, vetting of executive appointments, and oversight of executive departments. All statutes undergo a rigorous three-reading process and may be subject to presidential veto, which the Senate can override with a two-thirds vote. The body also has the power to create committees, issue legal requests, and supplement Co-Curricular Organization charters when necessary. Through these roles, the House of Senate ensures democratic representation, checks and balances, and responsive policymaking within the UNITASS Council.
